Do These Guys Offend You?

God’s Pottery is a “Christian Acoustic Duo” that was featured on NBC’s Last Comic Standing.

I can’t decide if these guys are degrading all Christians by falsely portraying us as ignorant or if they are just poking fun at all the hokey “Christian” stuff that deserves to be made fun of.

Funny or offensive?

What do you think?

Who cares? Christians should spend more time worrying about their God’s approval than the approval of walking damned who they live amongst.

Well probably both depending on who you are. I say….HILARIOUS!

I’m offended more by how much they brought the suck on the show than I am by their bit…and it’s certainly a bit.

ok, i really like that show, but this duo – not so much. i never laughed out loud a.)cuz it wasn’t that funny & b.)cuz it was about God, but obviously wasn’t bringing Him glory.
my take is … stuff done about him solely to entertain is done in vain.
God is so serious about his name & keeping it sacred & holy, that he put it in his TOP 10. it’s not to play around with.
now here’s one i can never make my mind up if i’m offended about ~ w/their ‘porn & pancake breakfast’ & the puppet they use to teach kids early on to stay away from pornography (but that’s another post!).

I have no doubt that they are taking aim at the subculture of the church…which frankly deserves it… I don’t look at what they are doing as an attack on God but simply calling out a lot of what the christian subculture tries to pass off as “faith”…strangely, I think they may be Christians or at least they’ve taken a seat more than once in the mega-church of the minute and watched enough TBN to form an educated parody of the sad reality.

I don’t really think it’s a question of whether I think it’s funny or offensive. The real question is are they moving people to know God more. It really doesn’t seem like it.

I think that this one falls under the Philippians 1:15-18 clause.

“It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill…. But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.”

There’s nothing in their message that is against the gospel of God. If anything, it brings up the issues.

    Are they cheesy? Yes.

Are they harmful and offensive? I don’t think so.

I’m sure the religious amongst us will cry foul and be offended, but frankly I think this it is hilarious.

And unfortunately it’s a fairly accurate portrayal of cheesy youth ministers. We can learn from this.

For the xxxchurch comment, I consider Craig Gross to be a good friend of mine and I can guarantee you that the xxxchurch ministry is life changing, and considering the stuff they’ve done in the past to reach people, I don’t think they care if people are offended. Personally, I think the porn and pancake idea is genius.

when i first saw them i laughed until it hurt!
    but that is just me.
sometimes you gotta be a little light-hearted and poke fun at yourself.
    ‘Christianity’ is no different.
we have to learn to laugh a little more.
and since i didn’t seem them saying anything contrary to the gospel, i think it might be hard to get mad at them.
so just laugh along with them!

You gotta admit, sometimes we Christians are pretty wacky. I think it’s important to maintain a sense of humor about ourselves…..keeps us humble.

And the bells were pretty darn funny.

‘pretty darn funny’ = ‘Christian phrase’ 🙂

Funny, but I did not find it offensive

  12. 13 Ben July 26, 2008 at 9:02 pm

I think it’s offensive because it just isn’t funny. Not because I’m offended…I just really think they’re a bad act. Just me maybe…

    I don’t really think it’s offensive
I think it’s meant to be, but I’m certainly not offended

These guys are like Swen and Dean clones & I think it’s funny.
I love the corny vbs praise with the motions and silly dances, and I do realize how ridiculous they are, but it doesn’t matter. “I’ll become even more undignified than this” : ]

I think these two are attempting to be offensive, but like Sera said, they’re actually getting a good message out through their mockery.

‘the pants come off when the ring goes on’ is a good one, but I prefer Lakita Garth’s ‘no ringy, no dingy’ : P

“Swen and Dean” clones. That is so hilarious and so true!
